The Figurine nominated for 10 AMAA Awards

Kunle Afolayan’s Film, The Figurine (araromire) was nominated for 10 AMAA -African Movie Academy Awards – at the 2010 AMAA nominations party which was held at the Grand Masvic Hotel, East Legon, in Accra on Saturday March 6th 2010. The nominations are for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Sound, Best Child Actor, Best Supporting Female, Best Lead Actor, Best Film From the Heart of Africa, Best Special Effects, Best Achievement in Art Direction and Best Cinematograhy.

The Figurine Premier in Atlanta

THE BEST NIGERIAN MOVIE OF 2010 PREMIERED IN ATLANTA USA WITH THE STARS!

Atlanta, GA (Mar. 1, 2010) – The anticipated movie premier of “The Figurine(araromire)”, a movie by Nigerian Filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, staring Ramsey Nouah, was shown for the first time in Atlanta, GA at the prestigious High Museum of Arts (Woodruff Arts Centre).

Presented by Iyàlódè Productions and APINKE Magazine and sponsored by AfricanReel.tv, and Paylid.com, the premier filled a sold out, packed venue with over 200 African movie enthusiasts, and left them with nothing but great reviews! The suspenseful drama, which was filmed in Nigeria, was heavily praised by the audience for its visibly great production quality, talented acting skills and unpredictable storyline. The guests were full of commendation and reverence for the filmmaker extraordinaire and producer, Kunle Afolayan as he entertained a Q&A Session after the screening.

Overall, it was a night buzzing with glitz, glam and excitement for the future of Nollywood (a term coined for the Nigerian Film Industry) and the African film industry. APINKE Magazine Editor, Veronica Oladeji, said “it was probably the best African movie production I have seen to date. The talent and skills captured by Kunle Afolayan, can bring the Oscar home for Nigeria one day”.

African Movie Night in Atlanta

Iyalode Productions (producers of WOCAF -- The Women of Color Arts & Film -- Festival, Atlanta) in collaboration with Apinke Magazine Presents African Movie Night with the screening of “The Figurine (araromire)”. The special guest will be Kunle Afolayan, the film’s director from Nigeria. Don’t miss this exciting screening from one of Africa’s more creative and forward-looking filmmakers!

The Figurine is a multi-cultural feature highlighting a full range of plots from friendship to betrayal, love to tradition. Two buddies and a girl… all down on their luck had their lives turned around after one of them discovers the mysterious figurine.. .. which according to legend bestows seven years of good luck. But no one told them about the next seven years..
